Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes Dance Alloy Theater for 30 years of creative, memorable and provocative contemporary dance in Pittsburgh and beyond; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares April 21, 2006 "Dance Alloy Theater Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Dance Alloy Theater, Pittsburgh's premiere modern dance repertory company, was founded in 1976 by eight active dancers as a collective housed at the University of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, by 1995, Dance Alloy Theater became the region's only contemporary dance company offering 34-week contracts to six professional dancers and full-time employment to technical personnel and arts administrators;
 
WHEREAS, today, Dance Alloy Theater has grown into a dance company that has traveled both nationally and internationally, with a chamber company that performs bi-annual home seasons at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater and the Charity Randall Theatre, and has grown into one of the largest state of the art dance facilities in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, Dance Alloy Theater, under the artistic direction of Beth Corning, is known for its performances and residencies in both traditional and alternative spaces presenting nationally and internationally critically acclaimed dance theater work that fuses together both theater and dance; and
 
WHEREAS, Dance Alloy Theater places equal emphasis on education and performance, by sponsoring meaningful educational outreach opportunities for those ranging in age from schoolchildren to seniors; and offers in house non-competitive dance and movement related classes for the community; and
 
WHEREAS, Dance Alloy Theater will celebrate its 30th Anniversary in grand style with NOW! - an evening of masters & legends, April 21-24, 2006 at the Charity Randall Theater, located in the landmark Stephen Foster Memorial in Oakland.
