Title: WHEREAS the National Association of Women in Construction, also known as the "NAWIC", is an international, non-profit organization that seeks to promote and support the employment and advancement of women within the construction industry; and WHEREAS founded in 1955 in Texas, the NAWIC's current membership includes approximately 5,500 members and 190 chapters which are located throughout the United States and Canada, with additional affiliates located in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa; and WHEREAS the Pittsburgh area's Chapter 161 of the NAWIC includes women who are employed as business owners, managers, consultants, tradeswomen, operators, architects, accountants, and attorneys; and WHEREAS during the week of March 4-10, 2007, the NAWIC chapters located throughout the United States and Canada will be holding special events to celebrate the Tenth Annual Women in Construction Week; and WHEREAS the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to support the NAWIC in ach...

WHEREAS the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to support the NAWIC in achieving its primary goal of creating equal opportunities for women and minorities within the construction industry.
 
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to recognize and commend the women who work in the construction industry throughout our region.
 
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim the week of March 4-10, 2007 as "WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION WEEK" within the city of Pittsburgh.
