WHEREAS, the members of the 191 Temples of the Shrine of North America, known as the Shriners, are a recognized international fraternal organization comprised of 50,000 members who make important philanthropic contributions to society, and
WHEREAS, locally, for the last 58 years, the 10,000 members of the Syria Shriners have sponsored the Syria Shrine Circus; and
WHEREAS, the annual Syria Shrine Circus has brought joy, happiness and excitement to three generations of Pittsburgh-area children and their families; and
WHEREAS, the annual Syria Shrine Circus represents traditional, wholesome family entertainment and family values, as is the philosophy of all Shriners nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the annual Syria Shrine Circus held in Pittsburgh showcases our city and attracts visitors to the downtown area with resulting benefits to those who live and work here; and
WHEREAS, this year, the 58th annual Syria Shrine Circus will be held on April 15, 16 and 17, 2005, in the Mellon Arena.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Syria Shriners, Ancient Arabic Order, and the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, for their continuing sponsorship of the Circus and for the family entertainment and values it provides our residents; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 15, 16, and 17, 2005 to be "Shriners Days" here in the City of Pittsburgh.
