Title: Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Duquesne Light Company for its longstanding efforts to brighten downtown Pittsburgh during the holiday season through its sponsorship of Light Up Night, its signature Tree of Lights at Point State Park and the new animated light display at Mellon Square. We also commend Duquesne Light and its employees for valuing their customers and for taking the extra effort to assist those in need in the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Duquesne Light Company is a leader in the transmission and distribution of electric energy, and is committed community partner, whose employee volunteers support a wide range of charitable, educational and neighborhood events throughout the year offering technological innovation and superior customer service and reliability to more than half a million direct customers throughout southwestern Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, each autumn, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grants are available for low- or limited-income homeowners and renters to help pay for their home energy bills; and

WHEREAS, on November 15, 2003, Duquesne Light partnered with Goodwill Industries and Holy Family Institute to assist eligible individuals in completing their LIHEAP applications in the South Side, Rochester, Edgewood-Swissvale and McKees Rocks; and

WHEREAS, each of these four sites offered free copying of all necessary documents and eligible applicants saved on postage since the applications were hand delivered from each location. The residents having filled their applications out early have increased their chances of receiving a grant for this winters high energy bills; and

WHEREAS, recipients of these grants never have to pay them back. Duquesne Light Company encourages all individuals who qualify for the grants to apply.
