WHEREAS, young African-Americans are our communities' future and must serve as role models for generations to follow; and
WHEREAS, Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh an auxiliary of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, has created "Young Blacks Give Back Month", a citywide project to give young African-American adults an opportunity to become actively engaged in community service projects for the entire month of May; and
WHEREAS, Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors, participates in mentorship programs with local school students, provides outreach to those in need, and hosts additional community based outreach programs; and
WHEREAS, the "Young Blacks Give Back Month", project was designed to encourage greater numbers of young African-Americans to take ownership in their communities and to encourage similar efforts in African-American communities nationwide; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh, for their efforts to enhance the quality of life for others as they empower communities and change lives.; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby proclaim May 2008, as "YOUNG BLACKS GIVE BACK MONTH" in the City of Pittsburgh.
