WHEREAS, Patricia “Pat” Szczepanski has served the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Pittsburgh since its inception in 2005, dedicating twenty years to the growth and success of the program; and,
WHEREAS, as Program Coordinator, Pat has recruited and trained instructors, organized events, managed auditing for university classes, and assisted members with a wide range of needs, ensuring the smooth operation of OLLI at Pitt; and,
WHEREAS, Pat has welcomed and supported thousands of members and instructors, fostering a community of lifelong learners and leaders; and,
WHEREAS, alongside Judith Bobengage, OLLI’s first director, Pat has contributed to a scholarship program that helps make membership accessible to more learners; and,
WHEREAS, Pat has demonstrated her own passion for lifelong learning, participating in over twenty creative writing classes and producing her own creative works; and,
WHEREAS, her extensive network in the arts and Pittsburgh’s nonprofit community, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild Jazz, and Carnegie Museum of Art, has enriched OLLI programming and strengthened its connections with the broader community; and,
WHEREAS, Pat’s decades-long dedication to OLLI has been not only a career, but a vocation and passion, leaving a lasting legacy of commitment, mentorship, and community engagement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Patricia Szczepanski for her twenty years of dedicated service and commitment to lifelong learning, mentorship, and community engagement be recognized and celebrated as a lasting legacy of excellence at OLLI at Pitt; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the October 6, 2025, as “Patricia Szczepanski Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
