Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend Mrs. Sara Norton for her many years of dedicated service to her family and community, and extends a "Happy 100th Birthday wish" to you and many more.

WHEREAS, On April 2nd, 2006 Mrs. Sara Norton will celebrate her 100th birthday, it is with great pride and joy that we recognize and commend her for many years of service to her family and community; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Norton has been a member of the Homewood Senior Center for thirty years. She was born in Alabama and has one daughter, four grandchildren and some great-grandchildren; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Norton is the oldest living member in her family. She has relatives all over the world, including a nephew in Maryland and a granddaughter in Atlanta who owns a beauty parlor; and
 
WHEREAS, When she was young, Mrs. Norton enjoyed jazz and blues. Some of her favorite singers were Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. She did not like to dance and would only get up to keep people from calling her a wall flower. Her favorite gospel singers are Mahalia Jackson, Dorothy Norwood, Shirley Ceaser and Aretha Franklin; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Norton still enjoys cooking for herself and she is loved and appreciated by all who come in contact with her. Mrs. Norton is very proud of her family and continues to be an inspiration to them all.
