WHEREAS Mitchell's Restaurant, located at 304 Ross Street in Downtown Pittsburgh, is currently celebrating its 100-Year anniversary; and
WHEREAS in 1906, Constantinos Michalopoulos (Gust), a Greek immigrant who arrived in America in 1902, opened the original, "Mitchell's Dining Room," situated on the corner of Washington and Wylie, above the site of the present-day Civic Arena in Pittsburgh's Hill District; and
WHEREAS between 1945 and 1977, Mitchell's Restaurant moved to two different Downtown addresses, finally finding its third and present location at the corner of Third Avenue and Ross Street; and
WHEREAS Mitchell's has remained a family business throughout its 100-Year existence, with its ownership continually building upon Gust's original vision by opening a Mini-Mitch Convenience Store, expanding the restaurant space, and purchasing the building where Mitchell's is presently located; and
WHEREAS on Saturday, October 14th, 2006, Mitchell's Restaurant will host a Centennial Celebration, during which special pricing and a variety of other events will take place.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to thank the ownership of Mitchell's Restaurant, along with its management and staff, for creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere that has continued to serve its clientele with quality and distinction over the course of the past Century; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 10th, 2006, Mitchell's Restaurant Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
