WHEREAS, United Cerebral Palsy was founded in 1949 with the mission to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities through an affiliate network; and
WHEREAS, since its founding in 1951, United Cerebral Palsy Pittsburgh has grown from a small diagnostic clinic linked to Children's Hospital into a major rehabilitation agency in the County; and
WHEREAS, through Community Living and Support Services, United Cerebral Palsy Pittsburgh serves more than 200 individuals daily, with all types of disabilities, including acquired brain injury, mental retardation, spina bifida, spinal cord injury and cerebral palsy; and
WHEREAS, United Cerebral Palsy is honoring the following groups and individuals who have advocated for people with disabilities:

WHEREAS, these awards will be presented at the 14th Annual Community Heroes Awards dinner of United Cerebral Palsy Pittsburgh on October 17, 2006 at the Westin Convention Center of Pittsburgh.
