Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the importance of finding the cause and cure of MS and expresses its admiration and dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Pennsylvania Keystone Chapter has shown toward a future free of MS; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 11-17, 2018, to be "MS AWARENESS WEEK" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system, affecting 2.3 million people worldwide; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Keystone Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society serves more than 24,000 people diagnosed with MS, generally striking people in the prime of life between ages 20- 50 and causing unpredictable effects.  The cause and cure remain unknown; and,   

 

WHEREAS, for 70 years, the PA Keystone Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been committed to creating a world free of MS, heightening public knowledge and resources so people with MS can live their best lives.  Since 1946, the National MS Society has been a driving force in research, prevention, treatment and finding a cure and has invested  million dollars in groundbreaking research in more than 380 research projects at the best medical centers, universities and other institutions; and,

 

WHEREAS, discovering a cause, finding a cure and preventing future generations from being diagnosed with MS is an important task; the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has raised $42.1 million funding 380 research projects at the best medical centers, universities and other institutions, leading to many breakthroughs in the treatment of MS; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the importance of finding the cause and cure of MS and expresses its admiration and dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Pennsylvania Keystone Chapter has shown toward a future free of MS; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 11-17, 2018, to be “MS AWARENESS WEEK” in the City of Pittsburgh.
