WHEREAS, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week is designed to raise awareness of the role of graduate and professional student’s within this nation’s Colleges and
Universities; and,
WHEREAS, there are more than 20,000 graduate and professional students currently studying in Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh’s graduate and professional students have dedicated volunteer hours to hundreds of worthy causes, enriching the City’s arts scene both as creators and spectators and contributing to the economy through innovative research and strengthening local businesses; and,
WHEREAS, graduate and professional students are the future teaching professionals, researchers and leaders of the political, business, cultural and educational institutions that are so important to this city, the nation and the world; and,
WHEREAS, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week gives universities throughout the city and the country the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these students with seminars and other events; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the contributions and achievements of its graduate and professional students; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 1-5, 2019, to be “GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDENT APPRECIATION WEEK” in the City of Pittsburgh.
