WHEREAS, Shepherd Wellness Community is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1987, Shepherd Wellness Community was the first and remains the only AIDS Community Center in western Pennsylvania, serving an 11-county region and touching the lives of thousands of people affected by HIV/AIDS; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Father Lynn Edwards, the Community's Board of Directors and staff, and active and dedicated community members, the Shepherd Wellness Community has grown and thrived over the years, offering itself as a gathering place, education center, peer support network, and safe space for people of all ages and backgrounds, both those suffering from HIV/AIDS and their friends, families, and supporters; and
WHEREAS, the Shepherd Wellness Community, located on Sciota Street in Bloomfield, has become an invaluable resource for healing, support, and connection over these past 25 years; and
WHEREAS, this Friday, May 4th the Community will hold its Annual City Theatre Benefit, one of many community events and fundraisers they organize each year.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Shepherd Wellness Community for their 25 years of service to the residents of Pittsburgh and the broader region; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 1, 2012 to be "Shepherd Wellness Community Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
