WHEREAS, beginning January 8th and continuing to Sunday February 5, 2006 the Pittsburgh Steelers began their quest to get the Bus home to Detroit and bring the Super Bowl XL trophy to Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, with a January 8th 31-17 victory over the Bengals, January 15th 21-18 victory over the Colts, January 22nd 34- 17 win over the Broncos and finally a 21-10 victory over the Seahawks the revelry poured into the streets of many neighborhoods in the City of Pittsburgh and grew larger with each victory; and
WHEREAS, two pep rallies were held with hundreds of people in attendance, one in the Courtyard of the County Courthouse, the second and largest on Forbes Avenue, closing the street between Grant and Ross Streets; following the Super Bowl win a Victory Parade was held on February 7th with 250,000 cheering spectators filling the streets of downtown Pittsburgh to welcome home the Steelers Team; and
WHEREAS, with coordination and cooperation in many areas, all the victory celebrations, planned and unplanned, occurred with little disturbance to the normal flow of the City traffic due to the untiring efforts of many people from the Department of Public Works; and
WHEREAS, from hanging banners on utility poles in Downtown Pittsburgh, event set up and break down, erecting barricades in various parts of the City, to the enormous clean up after each event, many personnel from the Department of Public Works need to be commended for their untiring contributions; and
WHEREAS, among those to be commended are:
Marlene Cassidy, Anna Dobkin and Nadine Brnilovich from the Mayor's Office
Department of Public Works Director Guy Costa
Deputy Director Mike Gable
Ben Carlise, Administrator
Public Works Personnel from the Forestry and Heavy Equipment Divisions
Park Divisions: Western-Eastern-Northern- Northeast- Schenley-Southern- State
