WHEREAS, Diane Delmer spent 9 years as the leader of Friends of Grandview Park and was instrumental in enriching the parks and neighborhood of Mount Washington; and,

WHEREAS, with the help of elected officials, Diane secured Cinema in the Park, the Art Cart and the Concert Series and obtained funding for the MWCDC to clean the entrance wall at Grandview Park. She advocated to have the walking trails through the park re-paved and was a big proponent of honoring the original names of the individual parks within Emerald View Park, which are recognized today; and,
WHEREAS, as a way of honoring the military and all three Officers killed from Zone 5 in 2009, Friends of Grandview Park purchased two cherry trees, one planted in Grandview Park and one in Olympia Park, and two plaques. Diane was influential in getting a garden/flower box in Grandview Park where the city provided a pipeline for the water. In addition, with the help of volunteers, she had flower boxes installed on Bigbee Street, along Grandview Ave, McArdle Roadway and the corner of Grandview and Shiloh; and,
WHEREAS, Diane also helped with the annual Farm Dinner, Bark in the Park, Community Days, Happy Days, Clean Ups, and an Arts and Crafts fundraiser benefiting Friends of Grandview Park; and,
WHEREAS, Diane was a big advocate for Bigbee Field. She collaborated with the city to rebuild the wall and add new fencing to the field. She received a permit allowing neighbors to pay to trim trees along Bigbee Street, until the city took over after 9 years and she fought to get the curbs rebuilt. Ms. Delmer was also the Block Watch Captain of Bigbee St for 12 years; and,
WHEREAS, Diane was a member of the Parks Committee and Safety Committee Task Forces and she helped organize the MWCDC House Tours; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Diane Delmer for her selfless service and dedication to the City of Pittsburgh; an...
