Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Damon Gray II for his hard work and congratulates Damon on earning the Eagle Scout Award through his remarkable and noteworthy project

WHEREAS, the mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law so that they can become responsible, participating citizens ; and,

WHEREAS, the Eagle Scout designation for the Boy Scouts of America is the highest advancement in Scouting and one in which a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills ; and,

WHEREAS, to advance to the Eagle Scout rank, a Boy Scout must pass specific tests that are organized by requirements and merit badges, signifying mastery of skills of personal interest in 21 of the 120 available merit badges ; and,

WHEREAS, Damon Gray II of Troop 379 in East Liberty, having completed all requirements, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on September 24, 2007. Damon is currently a student at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute majoring in Business Administration having graduated from Schenley High School with honors in 2007 and having been the City League Wrestling Champ in the 189 pound class; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to his Merit Badge achievements, Damon Gray's project was a collaboration with the Pittsburgh Conservancy in which Damon took the lead to clean and redesign a sloped, hillside area covered with debris and 60 foot Norway Maples that were killing off other trees and vegetation. Damon removed the debris and coordinated a plan to cull the problem trees to stop erosion , helping the Pittsburgh Conservancy maintain a large, public area that had become overgrown with deciduous trees, eroding from rainfall, littered with bottles, trash shopping carts, tires and debris; and,

WHEREAS, Damon's project enhanced the natural beauty of the park, assisted the Conservancy with labor costs and gave the residents of the city of Pittsburgh a clean, safe place to explore and enjoy.
