Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh would like to thank the Little Sisters of the Poor for providing safe and comfortable housing and vital services with dedication, tender care, love, and respect for the elderly poor in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, for 134 years, the Little Sisters of the Poor have relied on God's Providence, manifested through the kindness of their benefactors, to continue their work of caring exclusively for the aged poor in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, on October 18, 2001 the Little Sisters announced their first Capital Campaign in the City of Pittsburgh to construct a new facility and renovate their other two buildings; and
 
WHEREAS, in early 2004 construction was completed on their new building called Saint Joseph House on their former parking lot, providing personal care and skilled nursing care in an innovative design of "Households" for 48 residents; and
 
WHEREAS, renovation of the Little Sisters' Chapel, called the Gloria Chapel, was completed and dedication occurred on June 4, 2005; and
 
WHEREAS, work began in August 2005, and is now completed, renovating the section of the Home built in 1972 into forty apartments for low-income elderly; and
 
WHEREAS, on October 25, 2006, the Little Sisters of the Poor will dedicate the newly renovated apartments, called the Jeanne Jugan Pavilion in honor of their Foundress, with a Solemn High Mass celebrated by Bishop Paul Bradley.
