WHEREAS, the Friendship Development Associates (FDA) is hosting its twentieth anniversary birthday bash as part of the Unblurred: First Fridays at Penn on October 2, 2009 at the Glass Lofts; and
WHEREAS, the FDA was founded in 1989 to address quality of life issues in the neighborhood after residents were unsuccessful in stopping the demolition of a Victorian home at Roup Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the FDA has since then worked to revitalize the Friendship area through strategic and responsible real estate development; and
WHEREAS, the FDA hosts other events such as the annual House Tour and the Flower and Folk festival; and
WHEREAS, the FDA works closely with the Friendship Preservation Group to promote the Penn Arts Initiative and Elm Street; and
WHEREAS, the FDA has recently built the Glass Lofts and is renovating the blighted "Bride Row", contributing to the investment of the neighborhood along Penn Avenue"; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates the Friendship Development Associates on its upcoming anniversary and thanks the organization for its contributions to the Pittsburgh community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares October 2, 2009, "Friendship Development Associates' Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
