Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Eagle Scout Benjamin Retcofsky for his outstanding achievement of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, December 23, 2013, to be “Benjamin Retcofsky Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Benjamin Smith Retcofsky has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on Tuesday, November 12, 2013; and,

WHEREAS, Ben graduated from the Cub Scouts with the Arrow of Light Award in January, 2008 and is currently in Boy Scout Troop 158 where he has held the positions of Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader and on September 28 he received the Life Scout Rank; and,

WHEREAS, during his scouting years, Ben has completed many things including the Polar Bear Swim 6 times, the Iron Man Competition 4 times, and Project COPE; he was elected into the Order of the Arrow, earned the World Conservation Award and 40 merit badges, including the 21 required to be considered for the rank of Eagle Scout; and,

WHEREAS, for his final project to obtain Eagle Scout, Ben removed brush and excavated along the third base side of Oakwood Baseball Field and built a retaining wall to open an area to allow players room to practice and warm up during the games and designed steps to allow for safer access to the field from the upper parking lot, all of which took 194 hours and was completed on October 14, 2013; and,

WHEREAS, Ben created a recycling program to collect various unwanted metals and raised over $2,000 to purchase the materials for his Eagle Scout project; in addition, he raised funds to add a fence, bushes and mulch along the top of the wall; and,

WHEREAS, Ben is currently in 11th grade and attends Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy where he is a member of the baseball and golf teams, was inducted into the National Honor Society; after graduating from high school, he plans to attend college majoring in Engineering; and,
