WHEREAS, Charles Sterling Wiggins recently celebrated the occasion of his one hundredth birthday; and,
WHEREAS, born in Inverness County, Alabama, on September 8, 1917, Mr. Wiggins is the son of the late Graff and Nancy Lewis Wiggins; and,
WHEREAS, Charles and Nancy shared sixty-five blessed years of marriage prior to her passing and were also blessed with a son, Charles Graff Wiggins; and,
WHEREAS, Charles graduated from Schenley High School and then served his country with honor and distinction as a sailor in the United States Navy, from which he was honorable discharged in 1947; and,
WHEREAS, Charles graduated from the Western Pennsylvania Horological Institute and began repairing clocks and watches out of his home. He also worked for the United States Postal Service for thirty-five years before retiring in 1980; and,
WHEREAS, Charles has been an active member of the Holy Cross Episcopalian Church since 1950, a member of the Jericho Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons since 1953 and the Postal Service Retiree’s Association since 1980; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Charles Sterling Wiggins for his years of dedication to his community, his family and his country; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, September 28, 2017, to be “Charles Sterling Wiggins Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
