Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby acknowledge St. Mary of the Mount Parish for the service they provide to the community through their many ministries; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 4, 2011, to be “St. Mary of the Mount Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, St Mary of the Mount Parish was established as a mission of St. Malachy's on the South Side and on September 1, 1873, the first church of St. Mary of the Mount was established and in 1897 the present church in Mount Washington was erected; and,  
 
WHEREAS, Saint Mary of the Mount has been a pillar to The Mount for decades and continues to support the community by hosting many events and keeping residents informed of the many charitable opportunities available to them; and,
 
WHEREAS, one such event is its annual Ethnic Festival to be held on Friday-Sunday, October 7, 8 and 9 at Sullivan Hall, 115 Bigham Street, in Mt. Washington where in addition to ethnic foods from Italy, Poland, Greece, Mexico, Germany, and Ireland, there will be visits from a magician, clowns, face painter, and dancers, games for all ages, and craft show; and,
 
WHEREAS, charitable  opportunities and other community events have included Angel's Closet program, which provides winter jackets, hats and gloves to needy children, "Music on the Mount", the annual fashion show and the Silver Circle program created in 1987 to raise money for the retirement needs of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary; and,
