Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Central Catholic High School, the Christian Brothers, Alumni and students on 86 successful years as an educational and extracurricular center of excellence; and,

WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School, located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, is a Roman Catholic secondary school for young men in the Diocese of Pittsburgh which has built a tradition of excellence; and,
WHEREAS, since 1927, Central Catholic High School has provided a quality Catholic education in a formal academic setting by forming a Christian community committed to the Gospel message of justice, concern and respect while challenging each student to attain his individual potential and developing Christian values and skills necessary for responsible living; and,
WHEREAS, since 1927, the administration and faculty have been composed of Brothers of the Christian Schools, knows as the Christian Brothers. The student body reflects the rich ethnic, cultural and racial diversity of the Pittsburgh area with students from over 115 grade schools and 100 parishes from the City of Pittsburgh and its suburbs; and,
WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School strives to provide each student with a challenging, relevant and diverse program of studies and extracurricular activities in an environment that would foster a life of faith and scholarship; and,
WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School enjoys a strong athletic history with championships in track and field, soccer, swimming, and football as well students and teams that excel in basketball, baseball, tennis, lacrosse, bowling, ice hockey, in-line hockey, golf, rowing, cross country and volleyball. Central Catholic HS also offers club sports in fencing, table tennis Ultimate Frisbee and disc golf.
WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School has excelled in the arts and music, the sciences, technology, math, social studies and foreign language, English and writing, is accredited but PA Dept of Education and the Middles States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and is identified but the US Dept of Education as one of the nation's “outstanding secondary schools”.
