WHEREAS, in the words of the Golf Great, Arnold Palmer, "What other people may find in poetry or art museums, I find in the flight of a good drive." So might be the life of Golf Professional Bob Ford as he hosts the 121st U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club; and,
WHEREAS, born in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh, raised in Glenshaw and Valley Forge, PA, Bob Ford graduated from the University of Tampa in 1975. Returning to the Pittsburgh area, he took a job at the Oakmont Country Club at the age of 21 and the rest, as they say, is history; and,
WHEREAS, an accomplished golfer who has earned most of the top national and regional PGA Awards with 10 appearances in the PGA Championship, 3 in the US Open, 3 as the PA Open Champion and 9-time Player of the Year in the Tri State Section, Bob Ford is the consummate professional, merchandiser, player, teacher and gentleman; and,
WHEREAS, as a Club Pro, Bob Ford is considered the absolute best, a pro's pro. Considered to have the best job in America, Head Pro at Oakmont Country Club, he actually has the two best jobs in America, spending the winter months as the golf professional at Seminole Golf Club in Jupiter, FL. This arrangement is unique among club professionals and serves to crystallize the regard with which Bob Ford is held in the golf industry; and,
WHEREAS, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said, "There might not be a club professional in America who is more respected, more visible and who exhibits more professionalism than Bob Ford;" and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize that the US Open will be held at Oakmont Country Club for the 4th time under the leadership of Club Professional Bob Ford and congratulates Bob Ford for an exemplary and outstanding career as a Pro, Teacher, Mentor, Merchandiser and Player ; and
