Title
Resolution supporting the Bureau of Police's progress in attaining PLEAC accreditation and requesting quarterly updates until said accreditation is achieved.

body
Whereas, this ordinance is part of the Jordan Miles Public Safety Reform Agenda; and,

Whereas, the voluntary application of professionally developed accreditation standards helps to assure best practices of police bureaus; and

Whereas, Section 116.02(d) of the City Code requires the Chief of Police to oversee the Bureau accreditation process, to supervise the accreditation manager and related staff or committee and to assure the attainment of police accreditation and reaccredidation.

Now therefore, be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

Section 1.      The City Council of Pittsburgh supports the adoption of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) standards for the Pittsburgh Police Bureau.

Section 2.      Council further requests that the process for implementing those PLEAC standards and obtaining accreditation be completed in the most expeditious manner.

Section 3.      Council requests that the Chief of Police provide written quarterly update reports to City Council regarding the progress of the Bureau in obtaining PLEAC accreditation.  These quarterly reports should continue until the Bureau receives said accreditation.
