Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends Earl Jones for promoting peace and acknowledges Erin Dougherty as "Little Miss Peace on Earth". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that March 2005 be hereby declared "Erin Dougherty Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Earl V. Jones Sr., founder of the worlds largest Peace on Earth Contest for children, met Erin Dougherty in 1999 through his good friend Joe Revesz, a 33 degree Mason; and
 
WHEREAS, throughout her life, Erin Dougherty, currently a student of West Mifflin Middle School, has experienced hardship and indifference and was being slighted by children her own age due to the fact she was born with a handicap; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1999, a lighted peace torch was being carried throughout the world where it stopped momentarily in the City of Pittsburgh.  Earl Jones had the runner place the torch into her hands as she sat near the City-County Building steps; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2005, Earl Jones has named Erin Dougherty, "Little Miss Peace on Earth".  Both Earl and Jack Pischke, Past President of the Knights of Columbus, will present Erin and President George W. Bush with a sweatshirt inscribed "Life is Only Temporary, Love is Eternal"; and
 
WHEREAS, Erin plays "top soccer", the piano and clarinet, and performs in a band and likes to sing.
