Title
Ordinance amending the Pittsburgh Code of Ordinance, Title One, Administrative, Article III: Organization, Chapter 116: Department of Public Safety by adding in specific duties of the Director of Public Safety.
Body
Whereas, in 1985, pursuant to Ordinance 1 of 1995, City Council created a Department of Public Safety to fall under the director of a Director with specifically enumerated powers and duties; and
Whereas, in 1998, pursuant to Amending Ordinance 1 of 1998, City Council amended Chapter 116 of the Code to clarify that the Police Bureau, Fire Bureau, Emergency Medical Services Bureau, Communications Bureau, and Bureau of Building Inspection would instead each be under the charge of a Chief who was to serve as the head of each bureau and was to have the same powers as a department director as defined in Chapter 111 of the City Code and further clarified the respective powers and duties of the various chiefs; and
Whereas, it has been determined that there is still a specific need for a separate position to be known as the Director of Public Safety; and
Whereas, City Council now wishes to define the separate and specific duties of the Director of Public Safety.
The Pittsburgh Code of Ordinances, Title One, Administrative, Article III: Organization, Chapter 116: Department of Public Safety, is hereby amended as follows:
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 1. Section 116.01, which currently reads as follows:
ยง 116.01 BUREAU CHIEFS.
(a) The Department of Public Safety consists of the Police Bureau, the Fire Bureau, the Emergency Medical Services Bureau, the Communications Bureau and the Bureau of Building Inspection.
