WHEREAS, On October 6, 1967 the first physician assistant in the United States graduated from Duke University; and
WHEREAS, today, there are more than 70,000 physician assistants working in the Untied States and more than 4,000 in Pennsylvania practicing medicine; and
WHEREAS, physician assistants are essential members of the health care delivery team, working closely with their supervising physicians to enhance the quality of medical care in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, quality Physician Assistants are trained at the Masters level at Chatham College, a fully accredited Physician Assistant Studies Program; and
WHEREAS, physician assistants around the country will celebrate the week of October 6-12, 2006 as "National Physician Assistant Week".

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and thank all physician assistants for the medical care they provide throughout the year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares the week of October 6, 2006 - October 12, 2006 as, "Physician Assistant Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
