Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Marian Manor and the Sisters of the Holy Spirit for fifty years of compassionate and loving care to all who have called Marian Manor their home.

WHEREAS, Marion Manor, a project  of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit,  is celebrating 50 years of quality care to residents of the City of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS in celebration of 50 years, Marion Manor has planned several events including dinner at the LeMont Restaurant, a Children's Festival, Liturgy and Social, as well as the  Annual  Golf Outing; and
 
WHEREAS, after initially purchasing twenty-six acres of land within the city limits, and despite many obstacles, work was finally completed and the facility was officially dedicated on May 16, 1956, opening for occupancy the next day with a capacity of ninety (90) beds; and
 
WHEREAS, with the original objective of providing a restful, peaceful atmosphere for ninety retired men, women and couples, an expansion to the building increased the capacity to 174 residents, and now provides three different levels of care: skilled, intermediate and personal ; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1990 ground was broken for yet a second expansion and Marian Manor now provides for the needs of 52 additional nursing care residents, along with a Child Day Care Center which provides  for children ages six weeks through kindergarten.
