Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important work of Allegheny Elks Lodge No. 339 and commends all participants in their Flag Day Celebration; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, June 14, 2012, to be “Allegheny Elks Lodge No. 339 Flag Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, June 14th is Flag Day; and
 
WHEREAS, the motto of the Elks is "The faults of our brothers we write upon the sand, their virtues upon the tablets of love and memory"; and
 
WHEREAS, on April 9, 1896, 103 charter members began the Allegheny Elks Lodge No. 339 - just eleven years after the first Flag Day celebration; and
 
WHEREAS, the Flag Day observance of Allegheny Elks Lodge No. 339 and their Ladies' Auxiliary has been an eagerly anticipated community event since 1909; and
 
WHEREAS, the members of Allegheny Elks Lodge No. 339 are known for their patriotism, among many other outstanding qualities, many having served or volunteered in the many wars and conflicts of our great nation; and
 
WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Allegheny Elks Lodge No. 339, the community gathered for the annual Flag Day celebration and special service dedicated to Old Glory, with ceremonies led by Lodge Chaplain George Martin and the other Lodge officers, followed by music and entertainment by the Pittsburgh Banjo Club; and
