WHEREAS, volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Dr. Kathy W. Humphrey with their Lifetime Achievement Award; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Humphrey serves as the University of Pittsburgh’s Senior Vice Chancellor for Engagement and is also the Secretary of the Board of Trustees. In these roles, she oversees the University’s internal and external relations, focusing on facilitating business engagement, strategic initiatives and partnerships and government interaction at all levels; and,
WHEREAS, outside of the University, Dr. Humphrey serves on the Boards of the Three Rivers Adoption Council, Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, Leadership Pittsburgh, Forbes Fund, Blood Science Foundation and on the Executive Committee of the International Women’s Fellows of Pittsburgh. In 2013, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation appointed Dr. Humphrey to the Advisory Council for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy where she served for 4 years; and,
WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Central Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Science and the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a Master of Arts and Saint Louis University with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Dr. Humphrey has been married to her husband, Lyle for 30 years and they are parents of twin sons, Daniel and David; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate Dr. Kathy Humphrey for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from Nabhi Christian Ministries for her extraordinary body of work as an exemplary professional and a dedicated role model in the service of her community.
