WHEREAS, Great Outdoors Week showcases the diversity of outdoor activities available in the Pittsburgh region; and
WHEREAS, outdoor amenities create a more vibrant Pittsburgh and a more attractive Southwestern Pennsylvania region; and
WHEREAS, increasing participation in outdoor recreational activities creates a sense of community among participants and a better understanding of and a deeper appreciation for the environment and wilderness among the residents of and visitors to Western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, outdoor recreational activities support the attraction and retention of talented individuals in the region by providing recreational pursuits that encourage them to see this region as a place to call home; and
WHEREAS, more than twenty groups are sponsoring over one
hundred different activities during Great Outdoors Week, including:
Learn to Row and Paddle at Three Rivers Rowing, May 14 and 18, 2005
Bike to Work Week, May 16-20, 2005
Pedal Pittsburgh, May 15, 2005
Venture Outdoors Festival, May 21, 2005

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh applauds the efforts of Venture Outdoors , organizers of Great Outdoors Week, the participants in Great Outdoors Week, and declares May 14 to May 22, 2005
"Great Outdoors Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
