WHEREAS, on June 16, 2006, Brashear High School Head Football Coach Ron Wabby was inducted into the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Coach Ron Wabby received a BS in Education from Slippery Rock University and then a Masters in Education from Duquesne University; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wabby began playing football while attending South Hills High School in Mt. Washington and continued through College at Slippery Rock University, and later as a offensive guard for the Pittsburgh Ironmen, a semi-pro football team; and
WHEREAS, in 1975 Ron Wabby began coaching in the Pittsburgh Public School system at John A. Brashear High School as a defensive coordinator and Junior Varsity coach where helped the team win the City League Championships in 1979 and 1980; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wabby took over as Head Coach of the Brashear Bulls in 1982 and has compiled a record of 149 wins, 94 losses and 4 ties, including five City League Championships first place wins and four second place wins; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wabby has been named "Coach of the Year" 5 times by various organizations including the Dapper Dan Club; he has coached several athletes who played in NCAA Division 1 programs including Major Harris who was a Heisman Trophy Finalist and three others who went on to play in the National Football League; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks Coach Ron Wabby for his years of dedication to helping young men achieve their dreams both in the classroom and on the football field and congratulates him on being inducted into the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
