Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends the Pittsburgh School Board of Public Education and all volunteers for their work in facilitating "Take Your Father to School Day" and for fostering the importance of having a positive male role model in a child's life. The Council of the City of Pittsburgh urges fathers, uncles, cousins and other adult males to attend school on May 20, 2005 and show support for their children's education. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that May 20, 2005 be hereby declared "Take Your Father to School Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on May 20, 2005 the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education will celebrate the 7th Annual Take Your Father to School Day in Pittsburgh Public Schools.

WHEREAS, this strongly supported event began in Pittsburgh in May of 1999. "Take Your Father to School Day" encourages participation from all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers or any adult male to come to their child's school and take part in the day's activities; and

WHEREAS, it is critical for an adult males to play a significant role in the life of a child. By increasing the number of parents and guardians who actively participate in the academic and social activities of their children, they can impact their child's ability to excel in school and succeed in life; and

WHEREAS, those adult males who accept the responsibility and the challenge of raising and teaching children possess the unique talents of understanding and leadership and as a result, are able to touch, shape and impact lives; and

WHEREAS, last year over 3,500 adult males visited Pittsburgh's 93 public schools and participated in "Donuts with Dads", events at lunchtime, workshops, reading to students and sharing information about themselves and their careers with entire classes; and

WHEREAS, on May 19th, 2005, the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education will sponsor a "Take Your Father to School Rally" at the Central Administration Building, Conference Room A from 6:00PM until 8:00PM; and
