WHEREAS, the Shepherd Wellness Center was established in 1987 to offer support and assistance to persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of the Shepherd Wellness Center affirms that Shepherd Wellness is a safe, compassionate community empowering people affected with HIV/AIDS to live with dignity in the spirit of wellness; and,
WHEREAS, the Shepherd Wellness Center has grown from a few people sitting around a
kitchen table into a broad-based HIV/AIDS service organization reflecting the cultural and racial diversity of Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, the Shepherd Wellness Center will be holding its Holiday Concert Dinner
on December 15, 2006 with dinner and a concert by the Renaissance City Men's Choir ; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the noble and remarkable work of the Shepherd Wellness Center and declares December 15, 2006, to be Shepherd Wellness Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
