WHEREAS, for the past eleven years, the Carnegie Science Center has annually celebrated the most outstanding recent achievements in science and technology in Southwestern Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the Carnegie Science Center Awards for Excellence raise public awareness of the place of science in our daily lives as well as underscore the interrelationship of schools and universities, research laboratories, business development and job creation in our region; and
WHEREAS, the 2007 Carnegie Science Center Award for Excellence Honorees are:
· PPG Industries, Chairman's Awards; and
· Parag Hegde, Aharon Inspektor, Ph.D., Ronald Penich Kennametal Inc, Advanced Manufacturing and Materials; and
· Mark H. Kryder, Ph.D., Seagate Research, Catalyst; and
· Susan Simmers, Pittsburgh Public Schools, Elementary Educator; and
· Cheryl Kestner, Lorraine Kuniak, James Musolino, Evelyn Quade, Mary Queen of Apostles School, Middle Level Educator; and
· Jason Lucia, North Catholic High School, High School Educator; and
· Sanjeev Shroff, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, University/Post-Secondary Educator; and
· Ronald P. Bianchini, Jr., Network Appliance, Inc., Entrepreneur; and
· Mascaro Sustainability Institute, University of Pittsburgh, Environmental; and
· Sridhar Tayur, Ph.D., SmartOps, Information Technology; and
· Cara J. Hayden, Pitt Magazine, University of Pittsburgh, Journalism; and
· Harvey S. Borovetz, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, Life Sciences; and
· Jeannette City School District, School District; and
· Kay M. Brummond, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, Emerging Female Scientist; and
WHEREAS, this year's Carnegie Science Center Honorees will receive their awards at a gala event to be held beginning at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening, May 2, 2007, at the Carnegie Music Hall.
