Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Amen Corner for recognizing Judge Donetta W. Ambrose with the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence for her outstanding career and achievement in the field of law and justice and for her participation in civic, religious and charitable activities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, April 24, 2008, to be “JUDGE DONETTA W. AMBROSE DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and,

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has been honoring members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 48 years and for the last five years has honored the memory of Judge Robert E. Dauer with an award in his name for Judicial Leadership and Excellence ; and,

WHEREAS, this year's recipient of the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence is Judge Donetta W. Ambrose , Chief U. S. District Judge of the Western District of Pennsylvania; and,

WHEREAS, Judge Donetta W. Ambrose was first elected a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Westmoreland County in 1981,having been a law clerk on the PA. Supreme Court, an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth, an Assistant District Attorney in Westmoreland County and an attorney in private practice; and,

WHEREAS, Judge Ambrose, a member of the Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, American and Women's Bar Associations, is past chair of the PA Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession and is also a Fellow of the American Bar Association, the PA Bar Foundation and a member of other prestigious legal and judicial organizations; and,

WHEREAS, Judge Ambrose has distinguished herself in an out of her profession with awards from the Westmoreland County Federation of Women's Clubs, the Greensburg Business and Professional Women and the Tribune Review, the Westmoreland Girl Scout Council, Duquesne University Women's Law Association, Duquesne University School of Law, the Women's Bar Association, the PA Bar Association and Vectors. .
