WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Penguins finished the 2016 NHL Regular Season with a record of 48-26 and are currently in the Final Round of the 2016 Stanley Cup facing the San Jose Sharks; and
WHEREAS, one of the Penguins’ star players, Matt Murray, was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft as the team’s goaltender; and
WHEREAS, the 22-year-old Murray, from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, was selected for the American Hockey League’s First All-Star Team in 2014-2015, finished the 2015-2016 season with a Save Average of .930 and a Goals Against Average of 2.00; and
WHEREAS, Murray Avenue is an iconic street in Squirrel Hill and Greenfield, two of Pittsburgh’s East End neighborhoods, along which sprawling and successful business and cultural districts have developed; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, June 9, 2016, the Penguins will face off against the Sharks in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby call upon the City of Pittsburgh to rename Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill and Greenfield “Matt Murray Avenue” for Thursday, June 9, 2016 in honor of Game Five of the Stanley Cup.
