Title: WHEREAS, Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church in the Lincoln-Larimer community is celebrating "Pastor and People Achieving New Vision" during the week of April 25 thru April 29, 2007, this event celebrates the Glory of God and Pastor Eugene Downing's seven years of service; and WHEREAS, Pastor Eugene Downing, Jr. was born in the Garden State of New Jersey to Eugene M. Downing Sr. and Everene Downing. After completing public education in Pemberton he later attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. During his junior year, he felt the call to the ministry, and after graduation he received his Masters in Divinity from the Samuel Dwight Proctor of Virginia Union; and WHEREAS, through his experience with the loving members of First Baptist Church of South Richmond and guidance by several mentors a further call to ministry became apparent. WHEREAS, Pastor Eugene Downing, Jr. was born in the Garden State of New Jersey to Eugene M. Downing Sr. and Everene Downing. After completing public education in Pemberton he later attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. During his junior year, he felt the call to the ministry, and after graduation he received his Masters in Divinity from the Samuel Dwight Proctor of Virginia Union; and

WHEREAS, through his experience with the loving members of First Baptist Church of South Richmond and guidance by several mentors a further call to ministry became apparent. On the first Sunday of January in 2002 he would preach at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church as their pastor-elect. Soon there after became the full time Pastor of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he is Loved Dearly; and

WHEREAS, since in Pittsburgh, Pastor Downing has been active in the East End Baptist Fellowship, The Pittsburgh Baptist Association, Point Park College Advisory Board, Allegheny Conference on Community Development and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's Doctor of Ministry Program; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Downing's involvement with civic relations, senior citizens, youth, and education has established a leadership role in the Lincoln-Larimer community and our surrounding neighborhoods.


NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Pastor Eugene M. Downing, Jr. of the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church for his work strengthening his congregation and the Lincoln-Larimer community.
