WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Coro Center for Civic Leadership opened in 1999 with the launch of the Fellows Program in Public Affairs; and
WHEREAS, the two overarching goals of the Coro Center are to attract and retain young leaders for the region and to create an immediate and powerful difference in our community's development; and
WHEREAS, Coro trains ethical and diverse leaders nationwide, and has offices in San Francisco, New York, Cleveland and St. Louis, in addition to Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the Coro Center offers several unique fellowships, including Women in Leadership, Public Allies and the Neighborhood Leaders Program; and
WHEREAS, Coro fellows are placed in internships with a variety of organizations, including non-profits, religious institutions, local newspapers, and government offices; and
WHEREAS, the center sponsors the publication of several in-depth studies that analyze our region's most pressing issues; and
WHEREAS, the Coro Center for Civic Leadership is holding its annual Selection Day event on March 2, 2007, to select the next class for the Fellows Program in Public Affairs; and
WHEREAS, members of several community organizations volunteer their time to assist in interviewing and selecting our region's next leaders during this day-long process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks the Coro Center for Civic Leadership for its dedication to building the next generation of leaders; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares March 2, 2007, "the Fellows Program in Public Affairs Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
