WHEREAS, domestic violence remains a grave public safety issue that affects individuals, families, and communities throughout the City of Pittsburgh and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, the tragic murder of Alina Sheykhet stands as a devastating reminder of the dangers faced by survivors of domestic violence and the urgent need for stronger, more effective protections for individuals holding Protection From Abuse (PFA) orders; and,
WHEREAS, Alina's Law (SB 123 / HB 104), with the amended language, seeks to provide enhanced safeguards for PFA holders by authorizing the use of GPS monitoring and active alert systems-protections that have already demonstrated life-saving impact in Washington County and other jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS, restoring Alina Sheykhet's name to the legislation is both a meaningful acknowledgment of her life and a powerful affirmation of the importance of addressing domestic violence with the seriousness it demands; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the essential work of Alina's Light, domestic-violence service providers, and advocacy organizations that continue to support survivors and advance reforms that strengthen community safety; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby express its full support for Alina's Law (SB 123 / HB 104) with the amended language, and urges the Pennsylvania General Assembly to advance and pass this critical legislation; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh supports the effort to restore Alina Sheykhet's name to the bill, honoring her memory and reaffirming the City's commitment to confronting domestic violence; and,
