WHEREAS, many of our elderly neighbors can't get out or prepare meals for themselves nor can they afford the cost of having their meals prepared or delivered to them and are therefore unable to see to their own needs; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the meals that are provided, many of these people look forward to the bit of companionship that a daily visit from a Meals on Wheels volunteer provides; and
WHEREAS, Arlington Meals on Wheels has recognized this need and has taken an active role in serving our neighborhood to provide for the day-to-day nutritional needs of the Arlington area; and
WHEREAS, Arlington Meals on Wheels have been providing this service to our community for many years with no thought of reward or recognition for the help they have so selflessly given, in summer or winter, regardless of the demands of their own personal lives, these volunteers have made the time to help take care of others less fortunate than themselves; and
WHEREAS, Arlington Meals on Wheels volunteers are members of our community who have sacrificed time, effort and expense to provide this service to those who cannot provide for themselves; and
WHEREAS, the Arlington Civic Council hereby honors Arlington Meals on Wheels with the "Organization of the Year," award at their Annual Dinner on Monday, June 5, 2006.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Arlington Meals on Wheels for unrelenting efforts and dedicated service to the communities they serve, this dedication has earned them the recognition of Organization of the Year.
