Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Community Human Services Corporation for their work to destigmatize the public view of homelessness, and their services to assist and provide for those in our community struggling with poverty and homelessness; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 21, 2011 “Sleep-In for the Homeless Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in Oakland's Schenley Plaza from 6pm on Friday, October 21st to 6am on Saturday, October 22nd Community Human Services' Sleep-In for the Homeless will shed light on what it means to be homeless in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, citizens will sleep outside to increase awareness about homelessness, and raise operating funds for the Community Human Services Homeless Assistance Programs, which include shelter, housing programs, street outreach, free health care clinics, rental assistance, eviction prevention, and individualized support for the people facing housing crises in Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, the Sleep-In for the Homeless event aims to foster a positive public response to the housing and poverty crises that affect an estimated 2,462 individuals on any given night in the Pittsburgh community; and
 
WHEREAS, Community Human Services Corporation has been a strong presence in South Oakland since the 1970s, providing services that reflect the integration and celebration of all people with the goal of stabilizing the community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 21, 2011 "Sleep-In for the Homeless Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
