Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh encourages everyone in the City to stop what they are doing at 10:15AM March 2nd and spend the following 15 minutes reading a newspaper, book, magazine or other material of their choosing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that March 2, 2005 be hereby declared "Drop Everything and Read Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Board of Education has designated Literacy as a top priority in the City of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, the School District is asking all parents and other stakeholders to demonstrate their commitment to literacy by acknowledging the importance of literacy and learning in their daily lives; and
 
WHEREAS, March 2nd is the anniversary of the birth of Dr. Seuss, one of the nation's foremost authors of children's literature, and March is designated "Dr. Seuss Month" in the School District's "Everybody Reads" literacy outreach campaign; and
 
WHEREAS, all schools in the City of Pittsburgh are planning special literacy activities on Tuesday, March 2nd in celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday; and
 
WHEREAS, the School District will celebrate its fifth annual system-wide "Drop Everything and Read" Time on March 2nd between 10:15 and 10:30 AM.
