Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Silk Screen Asian Arts & Culture Organization for their efforts to promote and celebrate Asian and Asian American art and artists; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 11, 2012 to be “Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the sixth annual Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival will run from May 11th to 20th, kicking off with a gala celebration and red carpet on Friday, May 11th; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's festival features over 20 films from artists with origins in India, Japan, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Iran, and more screening at three locations - the Harris Theater, the Melwood Screening Room, and the Regent Square Theater; and
 
WHEREAS, Silk Screen was founded in 2005 with the goal of promoting Asian and Asian American culture, history, experiences, and issues in the Pittsburgh region and fostering understanding across lines of race, culture, ethnicity, and religion; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to the annual film festival, Silk Screen hosts educational and culture events year-round including music, dance, and other film events; and
 
WHEREAS, Silk Screens events and outreach bring together the rich cultural resources of Pittsburgh's Asian community and serve to promote the great talent we already have and draw in new residents to region.
