WHEREAS, Henry Hornbostel, an extraordinary architect, designed more than 225 buildings, bridges, and monuments in the United States including 110 structures in the City of Pittsburgh and twenty-two buildings that are currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, some of Hornbostel's most magnificent structures in Pittsburgh include the City County Building, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall, the Grant Building, Rodef Shalom, and the North Park Boathouse; and
WHEREAS, in 1904, Andrew Carnegie selected Hornbostel to design and build Carnegie Technical Schools (now Carnegie Mellon University); and
WHEREAS, Hornbostel's French-style Beaux Arts structures are unique and universal in their appeal, and continue to inspire even after a century; and
WHEREAS, American Ark Films and Executive Producer Len Caric created "Henry Hornbostel: In Architecture and Legacy," a documentary television film about Hornbostel to commemorate his outstanding achievements; and
WHEREAS, Carnegie Mellon University will be hosting a screening of "Henry Hornbostel: In Architecture & Legacy" on November 17, 2013.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Henry Hornbostel for his great and inspirational architectural contributions to the City of Pittsburgh and to the United States; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 17, 2013 "Henry Hornbostel Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
