Resolution calling upon the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and its board to investigate the implementation of an early detection system.
Body
WHEREAS, unknown leaks and other water-related problems such as a running toilet can cost ratepayers hundreds of dollars and can waste thousands of gallons of water; and,
WHEREAS, in cities across the country, water and sewer authorities have implemented early detection systems designed to notify a customer when a potential leak is detected or when an uncharacteristically high amount of water has been used; and,
WHEREAS, by granting customers time to fix a leak or correct another problem, these alerts can lower ratepayers’ water and sewer bills; and,
WHEREAS, also known as high usage notifications, these alerts encourage property owners and tenants to reduce water usage and adopt green habits; and,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 1. The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and its board are hereby called upon to investigate the implementation of an early detection system and to report to Council their findings and the cost of implementing such a system.
