WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Homewood Active Living Center has served as a cornerstone of strength, vitality, wellness and intergenerational connection in the Homewood community for 51 years; and,
WHEREAS, established to provide a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment for Pittsburgh’s senior citizens and community members, the Homewood Active Living Center continues to uplift residents by promoting physical health, lifelong learning, creative expression, and social engagement; and,
WHEREAS, through comprehensive programming - including nutritional support, fitness classes, health education, artistic workshops and group outings - the Center plays an essential role in combating isolation and improving the overall quality of life for seniors in District 9; and,
WHEREAS, for over five decades, the center’s dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners have demonstrated unwavering commitment, advocacy, and care, ensuring that senior residents remain vibrant, active and integral leaders within the fabric of our city; and,
WHEREAS, the 51st Anniversary of the Homewood Active Living Center marks a remarkable milestone of continuous service, resilience and neighborly care in the historic Homewood community;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council expresses its deepest gratitude to the staff, volunteers and members who have made the Homewood Active Living Center a beacon of light, health and joy for generations of Pittsburghers. And hereby congratulates the Homewood Active Living Center on celebrating its 51st Anniversary.
