WHEREAS, the Edward and Rose Berman Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh is the foundation for Jewish campus life for students from the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie-Mellon University, Duquesne University and other area colleges and universities and whose mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students through programming and a nurturing environment ; and,
WHEREAS, CAMPUS SUPERSTAR is the showcase fundraising event for the Hillel Jewish University Center in which hundreds of students from all the Pittsburgh colleges and universities perform and compete for the title of Campus Superstar; and,
WHEREAS, CAMPUS SUPERSTAR will take place on April 6, 2008, at the Carnegie Music Hall, Oakland where 10 finalists will compete for the title and where Dr. Barbara Burstin will be honored ; and,
WHEREAS, Barbara Burstin, Ph.D is a past President of the Hillel Jewish University Center as well as past Chair of the United Jewish Federation, of its Foundation, the Holocaust Center and past President of the American Jewish Committee; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Burstin is a faculty member of the History Department of both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University ,a frequent lecturer, an author and the writer/producer of a documentary film but is especially recognized and appreciated this day for her devotion, dedication and commitment to the Jewish students of Pittsburgh.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Rose and Edward Berman Hillel Jewish University Center for its remarkable work, congratulates them for the spectacular presentation of CAMPUS SUPERSTAR and honors Dr. Barbara Burstin for work with the Hillel JUC.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 6, 2008 to be "DR. BARBARA BURSTIN DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
