Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Family Resources for its commitment to Pittsburgh's children and families and dedication to preventing, intervening, and treating cases of child abuse and neglect and saving lives; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 12, 2016 to be "Family Resources Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the entire month of April marks National Child Abuse Prevention Month nationwide and represents a call-to-action to prevent and treat cases of child abuse and maltreatment; and,

 

WHEREAS, in its latest report, the Center for Children’s Justice estimates that 400 Pennsylvania children died or nearly died as a result of abuse or neglect between 2010-2014; and,

 

WHEREAS, originally founded in 1877 as the Pittsburgh Association for the Improvement of the Poor and further expanded in 1986 through a merger with the Child Abuse Prevention Center, Family Resources, Inc. has evolved into greater-Pittsburgh’s leader in the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse and maltreatment cases through advocacy, community building, education, support, and clinical treatment services; and,

 

WHEREAS, this non-profit organization offers preventative services designed to build healthy family relationships, targeted intervention services for families currently experiencing conflict, counseling services to encourage nonviolent alternatives to discipline, and a therapeutic preschool program for pre-kindergarten students who have experienced trauma; and,

 

WHEREAS, Family Resources’ dedicated staff have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of over 3,500 area children and families in 22 locations throughout the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Family Resources for its commitment to Pittsburgh’s children and families and dedication to preventing, intervening, and treating cases of child abuse and neglect and saving lives; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 12, 2016 to be “Family Resources Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
