Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Sisterhood of Rodef Shalom Congregation for it's stellar history of helping those in need, both within and outside of the Rodef Shalom community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares April 18, 2006 "Rodef Shalom Sisterhood Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Rodef Shalom Sisterhood, an auxiliary organization of Rodef Shalom Congregation, Western Pennsylvania's oldest and largest synagogue, will observe it's 100th Anniversary on April 18, 2006; and
 
WHEREAS, Rodef Shalom Sisterhood is comprised of over 400 diverse and dynamic women; and
 
WHEREAS, Rodef Shalom Sisterhood's mission includes providing exciting programming for its membership, as well as supporting the Congregation's social, spiritual, educational, financial and philanthropic needs; and
 
WHEREAS, Rodef Shalom Sisterhood continues to sponsor a distinguished book review series, offered annually, which is free of charge and open to the entire community; and
 
WHEREAS, Rodef Shalom Sisterhood has an outstanding record of social action, which has included an ongoing sewing group that makes items for cancer patients, soldiers and homeless shelters, holiday celebrations for new Americans, a tutoring program for disadvantaged youth in our area, and a Braille group that transcribes books for local blind students.
