WHEREAS, founded in 1920 by disabled veterans returning from World War I, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has been dedicated to increasing the quality of life for America's disabled veterans and their families; and,
WHEREAS, DAV maintains a corps of approximately 270 National Service Officers in 72 offices across the United States and Puerto Rico all of whom are service-connected disabled veterans who offer counseling on a variety of issues including VA compensation, health care, pension, employment rights and education; and,
WHEREAS, the Department's Transportation Network they have supplied millions of dollars in disaster relief grants in the aftermath of natural disasters and other emergencies as well as working to protect and promote veterans employment through legislative efforts and free assistance; and,
WHEREAS, DAV assists homeless veterans in making the transition from life on the streets to one that is productive and meaningful, ensuring that no veteran who honorably served his or her country is forgotten; and,
WHEREAS, on Saturday, February 16, 2013, the Disabled American Veterans will be holding a Dinner Dance to be held at the Double Tree Hotel in Green Tree; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Disabled American Veterans organization for their commitment to serving our Veterans who have sacrificed for our freedom; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, February 16, 2013, to be "Disabled American Veterans' Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
